At 15 years of age, LeGrande Scott McGregor started his career with McGregor Interests, Inc. by mowing lawns and performing other maintenance duties at the Omaha properties. After graduating from Burke High School Scott joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served as platoon sergeant in an Amphibious Assault Vehicle Unit. His service included three overseas tours of duty. Back to life as a civilian, he enrolled at the University of Nebraska and returned to construction and maintenance jobs with McGregor Interests, Inc.. After graduation, Scott joined the Kansas City, MO police department and also became responsible for the local management of properties in the Kansas City metro area.

Scott graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. While in the Marine Corps he was awarded: Navy Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Citation, Marine Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Ribbon, Sea Service Ribbon, United Nations Medal, and Letter of Appreciation. He is also an Eagle Scout. Scott is a licensed real estate agent in Missouri and Kansas.
